The Prin Banat Association is launching a call/competition for artistic project proposals for the 2024 edition of the Moving Fireplaces Festival. The call is open to both national and international artists and consists of two stages: submission and selection, followed by implementation and public presentation. Submissions are open from September 17 to 29 October 6 2024, and selected projects will be presented between October 23 and 31, 2024, in the historic neighborhoods of Timișoara.
The theme of the competition is migration. The use of research findings from Romania, Serbia, and Ukraine, conducted as part of the Moving Fireplaces project between 2017-2022, is encouraged for inspiration. Projects will be presented in public and private spaces in Timișoara, specifically in the Fabric, Iosefin, and Elisabetin neighborhoods.
The call and festival are specific activities included in the 2024 edition of the project titled Moving Fireplaces – The Legacy. Organized by the Association “Prin Banat,” the project is part of the national cultural program “Timișoara – European Capital of Culture 2023” and is funded through the Legacy Timișoara 2023 program, managed by the Timișoara City Projects Center, with funds allocated from the state budget through the Ministry of Culture.
Organizer: The Association “Prin Banat” is a non-profit organization promoting local values and cultural tourism in the historic Banat region. Its objectives include documenting cultural heritage and promoting cultural cooperation.
About the Moving Fireplaces project: Initiated in 2016 as a response to the refugee crisis in Europe, the project explores migration as a historical and contemporary phenomenon in Banat and Europe. The project addresses themes such as forced relocation, conflicts, and intolerance, and challenges stereotypes through contemporary art. In 2024, Moving Fireplaces – The Legacy examines the project’s legacy and the impact of Timișoara 2023, including the continuation of relevant artistic works and the promotion of cultural diversity.
